Lady sings the blues

Erykah Badu is a mystery, enigmatically flitting in and out of the mainstream music scene with her own hybrid of revolutionary soul-funk. After a hiatus from making albums, Badu has returned with New AmErykah, Pt. 1: 4th World War, the first LP in a soon-to-follow series.
Badu debuted in 1997 with Baduizm and that album’s smash single “On & On.” Her 2000 follow-up was the politically charged Mama’s Gun. After the release of 2003’s Worldwide Underground, Badu announced that she was considering early retirement—she had run out of statements to make. Five long years later, Badu fans have reason to rejoice; New AmErykah, Pt. 1 revisits the political message of Mama’s Gun with signature Badu style.
Check out Badu when she visits Vegas with a 21+ show at the Mandalay Bay.
Erykah Badu plays House of Blues June 13 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45, $55 and $62
