Hillary Lucas

Extra Board Server, Palace Station

Hillary Lucas

While some people are questioning whether Las Vegas will be able to attract enough people to fill the positions that will be created in coming years with the opening of more large-scale casino-resorts both on and off the Strip, people like Hillary Lucas seem to be proof that there is no need for alarm. Lucas has been working at Palace Station since she moved to Las Vegas in April. Her reason for coming: “I’ve been working as a waitress since I graduated college, and I wanted to come to the hospitality hub.” While there are some notable differences between working in Las Vegas and working at her previous job in Memphis, her approach to the job hasn’t changed. “I’m just trying to have a good time, and I want the people I’m serving to have a good time,” she said. As long as Las Vegas continues to attract people like Lucas with the lure of job opportunities offering better wages and benefits than are found elsewhere in the country, it’s hard to think there will be any trouble keeping all the resorts staffed going forward.
