Third time a charm for Wranglers

By Casino Connection Staff   Fri, Apr 04, 2008

The best ECHL team over the last three years resides here. The Wranglers roared into mid-March poised to become the first team ever to notch three consecutive 100-point seasons. Winning the Kelly Cup is a different matter, however. It takes four grueling playoff rounds and early battles against low seeds won’t always ensure success.

Las Vegas lost to eventual league champion Idaho last year, despite enjoying home-ice advantage. What makes the difference between regular and post-season?

“The bounces,” insist Wranglers coach and general manager Glen Gulutzan. “You always figure to play well, but you have to get things to go your way too.”

The Wranglers finish their regular season April 5. Playoffs follow soon afterward. Despite the uncertainty over whether regular-season success carries over, they have one essential ingredient for post-season success: defense. The Wranglers are one of the league’s elite defensive teams. It won’t be difficult for them to adopt the playoff style that wins championships.
