Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, Xbox 360
For those of you yearning for a long winter filled with beautiful snow and icy landscapes: you may want to think again. Capcom shows gamers just how harsh the cold can be with Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. The game takes place on an arctic planet that soldiers are trying to colonize and “terra form” to make it habitable for mankind. The problem, though, is that the planet is already inhabited by giant bug-like creatures called the Akrid, and they do not take kindly to visitors.
You join in the battle against the critters playing as Wayne Holden, a man who has recently been rescued by Snow Pirates and cannot remember much of what has happened to him. He does remember, though, that he has recently lost his father to an Akrid named Green Eye, and he is out for revenge against the monsters.
Lost Planet offers some cool features unique to a game that takes place on a snow world. One important part is your ability to pilot vital suits, which are basically colossal machines that help you travel on the planet and obliterate deadly aliens. The vital suits let players switch between more stealthy on-foot modes and outright war-waging alien battle. Another appropriate feature is the idea of thermal energy. The aliens get it from the planet, and humans harvest it from the aliens. Thermal energy basically runs everything on the planet, including your own life force.
Lost Planet is a game that utilizes the abilities of Xbox 360. Everything from the environments to the monsters are truly amazing to see. The game also makes you appreciate warm weather. So next time temperatures are dropping and you start to get excited about those white flakes falling from the sky, just watch out. There could always be aliens in the snow.
