Vol. 4, No. 1, January 2008, At Your Service
Janie Miller
Front Desk Manager, Fremont Hotel and Casino
There’s a lot to be said for climbing to the top rather than simply landing there. Not only does it build character, but it exposes you to things that you might not otherwise see, and it gives you a sense of perspective that you can later utilize. For Janie Miller, front desk manager at the Fremont Hotel and Casino, it also gives her an understanding of the issues the front desk clerks deal with on a day-to-day basis. She knows what they go through, because she went through it herself 15 years ago when she first joined the Boyd Gaming family at the Fremont in Downtown Las Vegas. It was her first foray into the gaming/hospitality industry, and she was immediately hooked. She admits she gets bored easily, and at other jobs, time seemed to drag on. Once she started at the Fremont, the eight-hour shifts simply flew by. “I love my job because there is so much variety in what I do,” she says. “There’s always something different and new to do.”
