The Las Vegas Sands Corp. is sponsoring a float for the upcoming Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. The float, entitled “Vive Italia” is modeled after the new Palazzo hotel, and features several Venetian landmarks like the Campanile Tower and Doge’s Palace, as well as a gondola made out of seaweed.
Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse, who is opening a restaurant at Palazzo called Table 10, has signed on to be Grand Marshall of the parade. The Palazzo float will lead the parade.
“This marks the first time that a Las Vegas resort will take part in the event,” said Rob Goldstein, president of the Palazzo. He thinks the Palazzo’s participation will set a precedent.
“Maybe we’re the trailblazer and others will do this, but we saw the Rose Parade as a great opportunity for the Palazzo and the Venetian,” Goldstein said.
Costumed performers will ride the float, which will introduce the Palazzo to more than 40 million viewers worldwide. This year’s theme for the Annual Rose Parade is “Passport to the World.”
