Pool Out
Swimming pools throughout the Valley help beat the summer heat
Red Rock
Red Rock’s beautiful four-acre circular pool area forms the centerpiece of the resort. While its recently expanded main pool area is reserved only for guests, Red Rock’s Cherry pool is open daily to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. An extension of the Cherry nightclub, the Cherry pool features weekend parties that run all day on Saturdays and Sundays, treating guests to music, cocktails, and other festivities. Red Rock also holds monthly poolside concerts that are open to all. Upcoming concerts include Vertical Horizon on August 13, and Daughtry on August 23.
Venetian
With its Oriental design, flowing curtains, and warm mood lighting, the sophisticated Tao Beach in the Venetian has become the daytime extension of the successful Tao Nightclub. The European-style Tao Beach welcomes visitors to swim in the spacious pool, unwind in the jacuzzi, or relax in luxurious chaise lounges. Tao Beach is open to the public seven days a week from 10 a.m. to sunset. Saturday nights feature a pool light show with floating Chinese lanterns and 14-foot tall fire columns. On Sunday evenings, Tao Beach hosts its weekly Sunset Sunday parties where DJs from around the glove crank up the house music. Cover charges vary depending on the event and sometimes parties are private, so visitors are advised to call the nightclub in advance.
Caesars Palace
Luxury epitomizes the pool experience at the Caesars Palace Garden of the Gods pool oasis. Surrounded by impressive marble statues, ornate columns, and beautiful fountains, the pool offers visitors a sumptuous bathing experience. Although three of its pools are only available for guests, the fourth European-style Venus pool is open to the public. Visitors to the almost 3,000 square foot Venus pool can relax in the oversized chaise lounges while receiving luxuries such as frozen towels, cooling face spritzers, and body massages. Living up to its name, the Venus pool features Greek goddesses who serve chilled grapes to visitors on the weekends. The pool is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The entry cost is $20 on Saturdays but is free on weekdays.
Palms
For those interested in an upscale pool experience, the recently renovated Palms Pool and Bungalows contains three large pools and two outdoor jacuzzis situated in a sleek, contemporary, multi-level landscape. The second level features a glass-bottomed pool that allows people below to look up at the swimmers above. The pool area is served by four bars, including the glass bar, which is situated beneath the glass-bottomed pool, and the waterfall bar, which is hidden behind a 12-foot waterfall. The Palm’s Friday summer pool party, Ditch Fridays, features the latest popular music, an outside barbeque, outdoor gaming, and loads of poolside fun and relaxation. The pool is open to the public on Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Friday from noon to 7 p.m. It is only open for hotel guests on Saturdays and Sundays. The cover charge for Ditch Fridays is $20 for men, but free for the ladies.
Hard Rock
The Hard Rock Beach Club welcomes visitors every Sunday for its outrageous, no-holds-barred Rehab pool party. Visitors to Rehab will be treated to an oasis pool setting with sandy beaches, a floating palapa, swim-up blackjack, and scores of beautiful people. Rehab partygoers often begin lining up early on Sunday morning, although the doors don’t open until 11 a.m. The cost is $30 for men and $20 for women, and the partying continues until the sun goes down. The Hard Rock also features a Friday Night Live outdoor concert series, where concertgoers can splash about in the pool while listening to the band. Upcoming concert events include Rusted Root with Backdoor Slam on July 13, the Violent Femmes on July 27, Ky-Mani Marley on August 3, the Steel Poles at August 10, the Young Dubliners on August 24, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on August 31.
Mandalay Bay
With its multimillion dollar beach expansion, Mandalay Bay Beach is welcoming the public to its series of summer concerts on the beach. The concerts are performed on the Mandalay Beach stage which overlooks its 1.6 million gallon wave pool. Surrounded by 3,000 tons of California sand, palm trees, and lush landscaping, the pool’s waves can reach as high as six feet. Not to be missed is the new three-level, glass-fronted beach casino that overlooks the pool. The first level features an array of dining choices, the second contains a beach-style casino, and the third has private sun villas available for rent. Concertgoers can enjoy the music while swimming about in the pool, playing in the casino, or lounging on the beach. Upcoming concert events include Pat Benetar on July 4, the Bangles on July 21, and Blue October on August 25.
South Point
South Point opens its pool to the general public for its weekly Thursday night Fever pool parties. South Point likes to think of Fever as one of the few pool parties in town where you can actually swim. The party atmosphere is relaxed but fun, with DJs playing an eclectic mix of music and go-go dancers showing off their moves. South Point’s large pool and jacuzzi are surrounded by a spacious sun deck, with an air conditioned bar and a sand volleyball court nearby. The cost for Fever is $7, and includes two free drinks and an entry into a $500 weekly drawing.
Mirage
Bare at the Mirage is a European-style pool that is intimate, hip, and sexy. The typical Bare bathers comprise a younger crowd who lounge around the pool area and listen to a mix of house music, hip hop, and top 40s. Bare is all about pampering, and visitors can sunbathe in plush chaise lounges that line the two large dipping pools. Bare is open to the general public seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. On weekdays, the entry fee is $10 for women and $30 for men; on Fridays through Sundays it is $20 for women and $40 for men. Bare also features several summer events, including the Stoli Red, White, and Blue Freedom Party on July 1, the Brazilian Blowout on July 5, to which the first 50 beauties receive a complimentary bikini, and 944 LA’s Who’s Next, What’s Next summer fashion show on July 15.
