A Mesquite Moment

Spa and golf packages make a perfect weekday getaway to the desert

A Mesquite Moment
You almost can hear the call… It begins as a whisper and progresses to a loud roar until it can’t be ignored…     It’s Mesquite!

While Mesquite and its casinos have always been a great weekend getaway, it’s even better for a weekday escape for those of us who work weekend schedules. The beauty and relaxation of the area is emphasized during the week by the lack of crowds and the freedom to take your time and do what comes naturally: relax!

While the gaming is always an attraction in Mesquite, with great (and affordable) table game action and slots that pay well, the amenities are what sets it apart from other resorts just a hour or two from Las Vegas.

Compared to Vegas, Mesquite is a small town, with that small-town atmosphere and laid-back sensibility. Getting away to Mesquite is like moving to a different, yet similar, civilization.

And the truly civilized in Mesquite take advantage of golf and spa packages.

For the golfer in the family, the CasaBlanca Golf Club features an 18-hole, 7,011-yard championship course designed by Cal Olson. With water on 13 of the 18 holes, the course is as challenging as it is beautiful. From the back tees, the course is more than 7,000 yards long. While some other Mesquite courses have dramatic elevation changes, the CasaBlanca layout is relatively flat and easy to get around.

For a completely different golf experience, try Mesquite’s original golf course, the Palms. While the front nine has extensive water hazards, the back side winds through canyons and arroyos with spectacular views and challenging shot-making.

A beginner? CasaBlanca offers low-key lessons. Lesley Holbert, the director of instruction at the CasaBlanca Golf Academy was a consistent money winner on the LPGA Tour from 1966 to 1972. Holbert was the women’s golf coach at the University of Miami with teams winning back-to-back National Championships in 1977-1978. She was named the AIAW Florida Golf Coach of the Year in 1981.

For complete relaxation, however, the CasaBlanca Spa and Salon is the way to go. Located adjacent to the resort’s spectacular pool area, which features private bungalows, mature shade trees and refreshing private pools, the spa is world class. The 10,000-square-foot retreat offers therapeutic and rejuvenating treatments for both women and men.

The Spa at CasaBlanca goes beyond traditional treatment favorites. Oh, you can still get the amazing Swedish, Shiatsu, deep tissue and aroma massages, the adventurous can also enjoy innovative treatments such as Watsu water massage, which is performed in a specialized pool. Couples can experience total relaxation together in secluded treatment rooms uniquely designed for two.

The spa also features two heated soaking pools, as well as a eucalyptus steam room designed to enhance the spa experience. A private sunbathing courtyard, along with a relaxation room and room service complete the full-service spa experience at CasaBlanca.

At the Oasis, another spa awaits, with similar amenities and treatments.

CasaBlanca and Oasis are offering incredible spa/golf packages for Casino Connection readers. Prices begin at $99 for two room nights (Sunday-Thursday) and either two spa treatments or two rounds of golf. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Dining options at CasaBlanca are also impressive. Katherine’s features gourmet dining such as certified Angus beef, live Maine lobster and Italian specialties, along with  an expansive wine collection. The Purple Fez Bistro combines the charm of a Key West street café with the convenience of a 24-hour restaurant, and the CasaBlanca Buffet features live-action food stations and a seafood extravaganza on Friday and Saturday nights.

While the CasaBlanca is fun for all, the Oasis makes a special effort to appeal to young people. Rock’it Lounge gets the party started with live music and dancing nightly (except Mondays). Club Xtreme is Mesquite’s only nightclub and features DJs every Friday and Saturday night. Club Xtreme also hosts Xtreme Comedy most Friday and Saturday nights,
