Golfing Glory at the Palms
The Palms Hotel and Casino is sponsoring the first Vegas Cup 2007 Pro-Am at the end of April. The tournament will see teams of five—one professional joined by four amateurs—compete in a best-ball format tournament, played over four days at some of the city’s premier courses: Bear’s Best Golf Club, Dragon Ridge Country Club and TPC Canyons.

The unique tournament was inspired by Las Vegas’ emergence as one of the top high-end golf destinations in the country, with courses like Bear’s Best being designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus.

The best-ball, pro-am format can lead to some interesting play, and the popularity of Las Vegas—and the connections of Palms owner George Maloof—will hopefully attract some of the more popular characters who show up for such events. Pro-am events like this often attract such characters as comedian Bill Murray and former NBA great Charles Barkley.
