It’s Official: People Love Las Vegas

Not that anyone was waiting to see it in print, but according to a recent ranking of major U.S. cities by Travel and Leisure Magazine, Las Vegas is one of America’s favorite cities.

Las Vegas ranks highly for wild weekends, people watching, celebrity restaurants, luxury boutiques, clubbing, cocktail hours, single scene and overall after dark excitement. While no one is likely to debate some of those rankings, the singles scene ranking as highly as it is—perhaps it’s geared more toward one-night stands rather than starting serious relationships—and the after dark scene coming in second behind New Orleans seem a little suspect.

And while it is nice to receive the accolades, there are several other questionable rakings on this list. For one, Las Vegas ranks low on the list for access to the outdoors. Apparently the 60,000 survey participants consider Minneapolis, a city that’s frozen solid six months out of the year, and Chicago, a sprawling metropolis located in the middle of land so flat you can see the curve of the earth to have greater outdoor attractions than places like Red Rock, Valley of Fire, Lake Mead or the Grand Canyon.
