Vol. 3, No. 11, November 2007, Tumbling Dice
Save the Dates
Earlier this year, the legendary Stardust was razed in the name of progress. Now, a date has been set for that property’s neighbor, the New Frontier.
The Western-themed hotel and casino has a date with the wrecking ball in the early morning hours of November 13.
Phil Ruffin sold the property to Elad Group for $1.24 billion earlier this year. Elad plans to build a hotel and casino, similar to its landmark Plaza Hotel in New York at the site.
The Tamares Group is currently suing Elad Group over announced plans to name the property the Plaza. Tamares owns the Plaza in Downtown Las Vegas, and claims that the new development will infringe on its trademarked name.
Before the new development can replace the razed building, a new casino—of sorts—is set to come online further south on the Strip, with the grand opening celebration of the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on November 16 and 17.
The former Aladdin has already opened under its new name and with its new décor, but the grand opening celebration is being heavily hyped by owner OpBiz.
“In April we promised Las Vegas we would throw the biggest party this town has ever seen,” said Robert Earl, OpBiz co-chair.
