Wrangling Cash for Charity

Wrangling Cash for Charity
Six charitable organizations will benefit from the newly formed Las Vegas Wranglers Community First Awareness Program during the upcoming 2007-2008 professional hockey season.  The Wranglers are a professional hockey team affiliated with the NHL’s Calgary Flames and are entering their fifth season in Las Vegas.

Each month, the Wranglers will spotlight a cause and offer a $25 game ticket and T-shirt package with proceeds going to the charity. The Wranglers, who average over 5,000 fans per game at the Orleans Arena, say that by removing 1,500 tickets for one game each month from the market, not-for-profits can realize a very fun—and funded—event.

“We hope to raise over $100,000 over the course of the playing season,” said Wranglers President and Chief Operating Officer Billy Johnson.  “This would be a huge building block for subsequent years.”

Johnson says he hopes the program will raise as much as $250,000 per year in the future.

Although Johnson insists the program’s goals can be met $25 at a time, he says the Wranglers will target human resource departments, professional offices and small businesses with opportunities to participate via packages that have price breaks and sponsorship incentives.

Each plan includes a number of seats for each of the six games with the smallest plan featuring 25 seats to each of the six games for $3,750 and the largest providing 250 seats for each of the six games for $31,875.

Johnson says these business-to-business packages are a benefit as they afford the simultaneous donation to worthy, reputable causes while fulfilling human resource or client entertainment functions.

The awareness series kicks off with the Wranglers game and “Pink in the Rink” on November 2 to benefit the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation which seeks a cure for women’s cancer and an end to violence against women. Habitat for Humanity follows on January 11, American Heart Association on February 15, and St. Baldrick’s on March 7.  St. Baldrick’s supports the research and treatment of childhood cancer.

The final two nights are planned for March 21 and April 4 with those organizations to be announced soon, Johnson said.

“Wranglers games are events, not just ‘games,’ and are simply a ton of fun,” said Johnson. “Hockey is the centerpiece of our events but the music, lights, sounds, and energy that are already in place provide a natural canvas on which to paint awareness and fund raising for worthy causes.”
