MGM Reaches Deal with Culinary
After contentious negotiations, the Culinary Local 226 and MGM Mirage reached a tentative, last-minute agreement on a new five-year contract.
The deal came after 10 hours of negotiations, and two weeks before union members were scheduled to hold a walkout vote.
“They called us this morning and asked us to meet today,” culinary union political director Pilar Weiss said. “They’ve had our proposal for a while. In reality, we really weren’t that far apart. Obviously, we’re happy with today’s events.”
Union members will vote on the new contract soon.
With it appearing that negotiations between MGM Mirage have concluded successfully, and with a deal already signed and approved with Harrah’s, the majority of the union’s 50,000 Las Vegas workers are now covered with new contracts.
