Cannery Casino Resorts is gearing up to open its $250 million Eastside Cannery on Boulder Highway later this month.

The timing isn’t perfect, given the state of the local economy: home foreclosures, rising gas prices and a shrinking job market. But Cannery Casino Resorts co-owner Bill Wortman isn’t concerned.

“We think the Cannery brand has proven to be, even in a down market, very stable,” he said. “We think this is a product that will create excitement on the east side of town. There hasn’t been anything new down here for many years.”

The casino is scheduled to open in late August.
