Hotel Tax Going to Voters
Clark County commissioners don’t think the proposed hotel room tax increase is the best way to improve funding for education in the state, but they still agreed to put an advisory measure about the issue on the November ballot.
The non-binding ballot question gives cover to legislators looking to enact the law in 2009.
The proposal is backed by Harrah’s Entertainment, Wynn Resorts and Station Casinos. It was a compromise reached with the Nevada State Education Association to get the teachers union to drop plans to raise the gaming tax throughout the state.
Commissioners said the proposal is not broad enough to ensure stable and continued education funding.
