Vol. 4, No. 8, August 2008, Entertainment
Mr. Las Vegas
Wayne Newton is the quintessential Las Vegas performer. He has played more than 30,000 solo shows in the city, and has defined what it means to headline in the Entertainment Capital of the World.
Newton is a born musician. He learned to play piano and guitar—by ear no less—by the age of six. He spent his younger years playing in various talent shows and on local radio and television broadcasts in his hometown of Newark, Ohio.
When he was a junior in high school, he landed a gig with his brother in Las Vegas. The 46-week engagement launched his career, and he has yet to slow down.
Mr. Las Vegas returns to his roots with a seven-night engagement at the MGM Grand running through August 6.
Wayne Newton plays the Hollywood Theater at the MGM Grand July 31 through August 6 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $65.
