Old Time Rock ‘n’ Roll
The temperature is slowly sinking into the double-digits on a Saturday night, and classic rock songs float across the street from a neighbor’s front porch radio. The nostalgia hangs so heavily in the air that it feels like a summer straight from 1968.
If you feel like dancing instead of doing dishes, then it’s time to head on over to the Orleans Arena, where Joe Cocker and the Steve Miller Band will stage a rock revival guaranteed to sate your thirst for cool tunes on a hot day.
Some artists don’t have to release catalogs of new material each year—their previous hits are enough to keep fans waiting to catch them in concert. And so it goes for Cocker and the Steve Miller Band, both of which are still in heavy rotation on classic rock stations.
Cocker’s throaty, soulful voice can still breathe life into “With A Little Help From My Friends,” a Beatles song nearly ruined by Ringo Starr’s nasal pitch. Cocker also planted himself in the hearts of hopeless romantics around the world with hits like “You Are So Beautiful” and “Up Where We Belong.” Around the same time, the Steve Miller Band was putting together bluesy rock numbers like “The Joker” and “Fly Like An Eagle.”
Now the two artists have come together for a tour sure to take you back to a simpler time when gas was still cheap and music was still good.
Joe Cocker and the Steve Miller Band perform at the Orleans Arena August 9 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 and $65.
