Rio Rejects Union
Dealers at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas voted 247-162 against joining the Las Vegas Dealers Local 721.
The vote dealt the union its first losing hand after successes organizing Caesars Palace and Wynn Las Vegas.
The union, an affiliate of the Transport Workers Union of America, says it is not discouraged and will continue efforts to organize other casinos.
To date, the union has failed to negotiated any collective bargaining agreements covering workers at either Wynn or Caesars Palace. Furthermore, dealers at Wynn who joined the union have been barred from working at Encore, which is scheduled to open at the end of the year.
