MGM Jean project on hold

MGM Mirage’s plans to master plan more than 160 acres in Jean are on hold a company official said last week.

The company planned to develop that land into a community with affordable housing, commercial and retail space, as well as a new hotel casino. It partnered with American Nevada Co. on the project.

“Obviously, this is an uncertain time in the economy so a final decision isn’t expected anytime soon,” said MGM Mirage spokesman Alan Feldman.

He added that the two companies continue to look for “a higher and better use for the property in Jean.”
