Glitter Gulch Slots Bid in Trouble

By Casino Connection Staff   Thu, Oct 02, 2008

Efforts to bring slot machines to the Topless Girls of Glitter Gulch strip club in Downtown Las Vegas have been severely hampered by numerous violations reported at the establishment.

Nevada gaming regulators have sent undercover agents into the facility on two separate occasions. On one occasion, the undercover agents were solicited for prostitution; the second time they were offered narcotics for purchase.

Upon hearing those reports at the most recent meeting, Gaming Control Board members all but said the application is dead.

“With this type of application, you have to come in here squeaky clean, or as close to it as you can get,” said board member Randy Sayre. “There is absolutely no way I can support this location.”

The issue was sent back to investigators. Board members said they were all ready to vote against the proposal, and urged management of Glitter Gulch to come back in a year with a cleaner record.

Topless Girls of Glitter Gulch is owned by Granite Gaming Group, which also operates Mermaids and La Bayou casinos, also in Downtown Las Vegas.

Steve Burnstine, CEO of Granite Gaming, said efforts have been made to clean up the property.

Sayre, however, was not convinced. He said the changes were made after management was confronted with reports of prostitution and drug use. He also asked about a now defunct website related to the Topless Girls of Glitter Gulch that linked to other “questionable businesses.”

While Burnstine said the site was operated illegally and that he filed legal action in federal court to have it taken down, Sayre was not convinced, considering the site was operational for five years.
